Using 3D Models in PowerPoint
📌 The session focuses on leveraging 3D features in PowerPoint to make presentations interactive and engaging, moving beyond static 2D slides.
💡 3D models foster conceptual understanding and visual/spatial thinking, allowing objects to be displayed within space where text and images cannot.
💻 To insert 3D models, navigate to the Insert tab > 3D Models and select Online Sources Gallery (requires an internet connection and a PowerPoint subscription).
Inserting and Manipulating 3D Content
➡️ 3D models can be inserted from online sources (searchable library including animated, educational, and anatomical models) or from a file on your device (no internet needed for this method).
🖱️ Models can be positioned and rotated using the hand control by clicking and holding, or by using the 3D Model View Gallery on the ribbon for preset positions.
⚙️ The Pan and Zoom tool acts as an on/off switch; once activated (indicated by a gray box), users can move, rotate, and resize the model; pressing the button again deactivates the mode.
Animating 3D Models
✨ The Morph transition creates smooth animations by duplicating a slide and changing the 3D model's position, rotation, or size between the two identical slides.
🎬 The Animations tab allows applying specific 3D model effects such as Turnable, Swing, Jump, and Turn using the Effect Options for enhanced visualization.
➕ Users can combine 3D animations with classic 2D animations (like Fade or Motion Paths) to create complex visual presentations.
Key Points & Insights
➡️ Transitioning from 2D to 3D models prevents presentations from being dull and captures audience interest by offering different perspectives at every angle.
➡️ Inserting 3D models from the Online Sources Gallery requires a stable internet connection as the models are downloaded during insertion.
➡️ The Morph transition is a powerful technique for showing the evolution or movement of a 3D object across sequential slides with minimal effort.
