I made $1M by ignoring popular business advice: here's what actually works

Advice to Double Down On vs. Ignore for Freedom
📌 The speaker actively built a freedom-focused business generating about $30,000 monthly through a YouTube agency, AI consulting, and content creation, aiming for financial, time, and location freedom.
🗺️ To achieve location freedom, ignore the advice to never trade time for money and chase passive income; instead, prioritize rapid feedback cycles to fail fast.
💡 Passive income streams (like early YouTube monetization, which yielded only $9 on the first day) have a slow feedback loop, hindering quick learning, unlike active pursuit of rapid testing.
🚀 Embrace the concept of exit velocity: put in intense, focused energy at the start to overcome initial inertia, knowing that maintenance becomes easier once momentum is built.

Financial Freedom Strategy
🏀 Bad advice for financial freedom is basing a business solely on passion; the speaker's failed Basketball IQ Academy serves as a warning despite his expertise and passion.
🔑 The crucial ingredient for a successful business is solving a problem that people are already willing to pay for, alongside passion and expertise.
💰 Businesses should solve tangible problems, such as helping realtors get listings or helping coaches leverage AI for freedom, ensuring market demand exists.

Building Time Freedom (Creating an Asset)
❌ Do not work for free to gain experience or testimonials, as this kills the ability to build a scalable business because the processes for free vs. paid clients differ significantly.
🏗️ The best approach is to charge enough to be profitable from day one and build the business as if it must be sold in one year, focusing on systems and processes rather than personal hours.
📊 Adopt the Profit First system (using services like Relay Business Accounts) to allocate every dollar immediately into four main buckets: Profit, Operating Expenses (OPEX), Owner's Pay, and Taxes.

Key Points & Insights
➡️ Fail Fast: Prioritize completing many feedback cycles quickly rather than waiting on slow-to-materialize passive income, as faster failure leads to quicker success.
➡️ Problem Solvers Win: A business must solve a problem people are already willing to pay to fix, regardless of the founder's passion or skill in the area.
➡️ Owner vs. Employee Pay: Distinguish clearly between Profit (compensation for ownership, which increases as you delegate) and Owner's Pay (compensation for working *in* the business).
➡️ Price for Saleability: Charge adequately from the start and build systems so the business functions as an asset, allowing you freedom even if you never plan to sell it.
