What is the definition of Zuhd according to Abu Sulaiman ad-Daruni?

According to Abu Sulaiman ad-Daruni, Zuhd is abandoning anything that makes you distant from remembering Allah (Zikrullah), whether it involves forbidden, disliked, or even permissible things if they distract from basic obligations.

What worldly items did the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) indicate are sources of happiness in this world according to the Hadith mentioned?

The four elements of worldly happiness mentioned are: a righteous wife (Al-Mar'ah As-Salihah), a spacious dwelling (Al-Maskan Al-Wasi'), good neighbors (Al-Jār Al-Hasan), and a comfortable vehicle/mount (Al-Markab Al-Hani).

Does Islam forbid a Muslim from enjoying the world, such as having good clothing or wealth?

No, Islam does not forbid it, as long as one stays within the boundaries of what is lawful (Halal) and uses worldly enjoyment as a means to prepare for the Hereafter.

Is having significant wealth, such as 1000 gold Dinars (equivalent to about 2.5 billion today), incompatible with the status of being a person practicing Zuhd?

Imam Ahmad stated that it is very possible for someone with that much wealth to be considered practicing Zuhd, provided they do not become proud or arrogant due to the wealth, nor sad if it decreases, especially when spending it in the way of Allah.

According to the narration regarding the three companions who intensified their worship, what was the Prophet Muhammad's (peace be upon him) response to their extreme vows (e.g., perpetual fasting, not marrying)?

The Prophet (peace be upon him) admonished them, stating that he, despite being the most pious among them, still married women, ate, slept, and broke his fasts, warning that whoever rejects his Sunnah is not part of his community.

What is the practical definition of Zuhd according to Abdullah bin Mas'ud?

One of the characteristics of a person practicing Zuhd is that they are convinced in their heart that they do not seek the pleasure (Rida) of people if it leads to the wrath (Murka) of Allah.

Definition and Misconceptions of Zuhud (Asceticism)
📌 A focused definition of Zuhud is provided by Abu Sulaiman ad-Darani: leaving anything that distances you from remembering Allah ( $\text{zikrullah}$ ).
🚫 A common misunderstanding is equating Zuhud with total abandonment of the world (e.g., wearing ragged clothes, neglecting presentation, or avoiding worldly achievements).
🌍 The primary purpose of creation is to worship Allah ( $W\text{ }khalaqtul jinna wal insa illa liya'budun}$ ), meaning the world should be utilized for obedience.

The Proper Role of the World
📈 Islam encourages enjoying the world within the boundaries of what is halal; this includes having good clothing, a suitable spouse, a spacious home, and comfortable transport.
✨ The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) listed four sources of happiness in this world: a righteous wife ( $al\text{ }mar\text{ }a\text{ }as\text{ }saliha}$ ), a spacious dwelling ( $wal\text{ }maskanul\text{ }wasi}$ ), good neighbors ( $wal\text{ }jarul\text{ }hasan}$ ), and a comfortable ride ( $wal\text{ }markabul\text{ }hani}$ ).
⚖️ The believer must pursue the Hereafter while not forgetting their share of the world ( $wa\text{ }la\text{ }tansa\text{ }nashibaka\text{ }minad\text{ }dunya}$ ), viewing worldly comforts as miniatures of Paradise.

Actionable Aspects of True Zuhud
➡️ Zuhud is an act of the heart, not just external appearance, meaning it cannot always be visibly attested by others.
➡️ Do not make the permissible forbidden; true asceticism involves not prioritizing what is in your hand over what you believe Allah has decreed.
➡️ A sign of Zuhud is caring less about the praise or criticism of people ( $la\text{ }yabtaghi\text{ }ridar\text{ }rujalis\text{ }man$ ) when upholding the truth.

Key Points & Insights
➡️ The best prayer encapsulates this balance: "Our Lord, give us good in this world and good in the Hereafter" ( $Rabbana\text{ }atina\text{ }fid\text{ }dunya\text{ }hasanah\text{ }wafid\text{ }akhirati\text{ }hasanah}$ ).
➡️ Be wary of extreme asceticism that rejects permissible things like marriage or proper sustenance, as exemplified by the Prophet's correction of three companions who took extreme vows.
➡️ If worldly matters clash with obligations to Allah (e.g., missing prayer for a meeting), the Hereafter must be prioritized, as the world's value compared to the Hereafter is like a finger dipped in the sea versus the ocean.
➡️ Wealth is compatible with Zuhud: one can possess wealth (e.g., 1000 dinars, equating to approximately $2.5\text{ }million$ today) as long as one does not boast about increase or grieve about decrease spent in Allah's path.
