My Parent's DID NOT Attend My Wedding.. - Their Why Didn't Make No Sense

Return to Vietnam and Quarantine Experience
📌 The speaker returned to Vietnam, assisted by a contact named Gi Fanu, who was local and coming from Washington D.C.
🤒 Initial entry required a 17-day mandatory isolation period in a hotel at the traveler's expense, similar to what the speaker and a companion (D) were expecting.
✅ Upon landing, the speaker received a call canceling the isolation requirement, which was considered a blessing due to the expected hardship.

Proposal and Family Events in Vietnam
💍 The speaker chose to propose two days after Valentine's Day (February 18th), which coincidentally marked the first day he and his wife (Lynn) ever spoke.
💍 The proposal took place in Da Nang City at a rented Airbnb, attended by family and two best friends from Saigon.
💍 The speaker was nervous, researching proposal etiquette (e.g., kneeling, which hand for the ring), and opted for a simple message ("We've been together for so long. I love you so much. Please be my wife.").
😲 Lynn's father, who is usually unemotional, appeared to be shedding tears in the video footage of the proposal.

Marriage Paperwork and Celebration Timing
📄 The official marriage certificate paperwork was processed quickly in Da Nang City, even though the formal wedding celebration had not occurred yet.
📄 Obtaining documentation in the specific village area involved significant talking and delays, suggesting local customs requiring informal payments or influence to expedite official processes.
📅 The official signing of marriage documents occurred on February 21st, while the formal celebration was held later on March 1st, due to COVID-19 restrictions on large gatherings at the time.

Family Absence and Travel Costs
✈️ The speaker informed most of his family in Vietnam (95% of relatives) about the wedding date only a month prior, saving many from spending an estimated $5,000 on travel during uncertain times.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 The speaker's parents refused to attend the wedding, citing the need to work, despite the speaker offering to pay for their travel and an extra $10,000 compensation for missing work.
🗣️ The speaker's uncle from the US unsuccessfully argued with his father about the necessity of working during the two-day event, highlighting the father's stern insistence on not attending.

Key Points & Insights
➡️ Expediting official paperwork in certain Vietnamese localities may require extensive talking and influence rather than just following standard procedures.
➡️ The speaker prioritized protecting friends and family from large, uncertain expenses (estimated at $5,000 per person) by not formally inviting them to the small Vietnamese wedding.
➡️ The speaker was deeply affected by his parents' absence at his first wedding ceremony, despite offering significant financial incentives to cover their work absence.
➡️ A subsequent event involved the passing of the speaker's uncle from the States near the wedding date, leading to arrangements for his cremation and burial in Vietnam.
