What material are safety goggles made of?

Safety goggles are made of Polyvinyl Chloride (PVC) and are durable, designed to protect the eyes from splashes of chemicals, dust, and glass fragments.

What is the main purpose of wearing a face mask in the laboratory?

The face mask protects the nose and mouth from inhaling pungent or volatile chemical fumes, dust, or smoke, which could otherwise impair the respiratory system.

What are the two main functions of wearing laboratory gloves?

Gloves protect the hands from corrosive materials like strong acids and alkalis, and they prevent contamination of biological specimens by bacteria or prevent specimens from being contaminated by the user's hands.

What types of gloves are mentioned in the video?

Two types of gloves are mentioned: latex gloves (natural rubber) and nitrile gloves, which are synthetic rubber, strong, and durable.

What is the function of the Fume Cupboard (Fume Hood)?

The Fume Cupboard is a ventilation system used to conduct experiments involving volatile, flammable, toxic, corrosive, or foul-smelling substances, ensuring these materials do not cause accidents outside the hood.

How is the Eye Wash Station used if chemicals splash into the eyes?

The user must open their eyes wide and direct the stream of water from the eyewash station into their eyes. The mechanism is activated by pressing down a lever with the foot.

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in the Laboratory
📌 Five essential pieces of PPE must be worn inside the lab: goggles, face mask, gloves, lab coat (or *baju makmal*), and closed-toe safety shoes (*kasut makmal*).
👓 Goggles (made of PVC, resistant to heat and impact) protect eyes from splashes of corrosive substances like acids, bromine, ammonia, or glass shards.
👃 The face mask prevents inhalation of strong or volatile chemicals, dust, or fumes that could affect the respiratory system.
🧤 Gloves (latex or nitrile) protect hands from corrosive agents (strong acid/alkali) and prevent contamination of biological specimens or radioactive materials.

Fixed Laboratory Safety Equipment
🔬 The Laminar Flow Cabinet (*Kabinet Aliran Laminar*), also known as a biological safety cabinet, creates a sterile environment using filtered air, primarily for microbiology work to prevent contamination.
💨 The Fume Hood (*Kebo Asap*) is crucial for experiments involving volatile, flammable, toxic, or strongly corrosive substances (like concentrated acid or alkali) to ensure fumes are safely exhausted outside the lab area.
🚿 The Safety Shower (*Penyiram Kecemasan*) is used immediately to rinse large spills of chemicals or extinguish fire on clothing/body by pulling a cord, causing a shower of water.
👁️ The Eyewash Station (*Pembilas Mata*) must be used immediately to flush eyes contaminated by chemical splashes, involving pressing a pedal to release a continuous flow of water.

Key Points & Insights
➡️ All five pieces of PPE (goggles, mask, gloves, lab coat, safety shoes) are mandatory before conducting any experiment.
➡️ Safety shoes must have strong rubber grips to prevent slipping on laboratory floors.
➡️ In case of any accident or emergency within the lab, it is compulsory to immediately report it to the teacher or lab assistant.
➡️ The safety shower can also be used to put out small fires on clothing.
